I have to say that I approach most self-published books with trepidation but this book got a decent review on Dear Author, which is what lead me to check it out.The two main characters--Reid and Dori--are the highlights of the book. They are both fully realized and interesting characters. I thought that the author did a particularly good job with Dori, who, as a do-gooder, could have come across as preachy and indulgent but didn't. By the end of the book, you believe that these two characters were meant to be together.
The major drawback, however, is the story felt very claustrophobic to me. It was like looking at/following around the two main characters while looking at them through a tunnel; you could only see them and not the setting, the world they lived in. Places were just not described. It was very off-putting.
I was also distracted by the present tense narration. Sometimes this bothers and sometimes it doesn't; in this case, I thought it intruded on the story.
Overall, I would try another book by this author. 3.5 stars.
